Understanding Lawyers - Don't Think the Worst

I got into a car accident when my daughter was 2 years old. My daughter was not injured in the crash, but I was. The accident was caused by a distracted driver talking on her cell phone. The driver insisted that I was attending to my daughter and I took my eyes off the road. I unfortunately had many medical bills to pay and I had very little time to fight with insurance companies over settlement payments. I was concerned about the cost of an attorney, but I met with a lawyer anyway to help with the accident claim. The lawyer relieved my stress and dealt with the insurance company and the other driver. I want you to know that lawyers can be helpful, kind, and caring. Most people think the worst of these professionals, but I want you to know that lawyers should not be feared or avoided.

Filing A Lawsuit After A Physical & Mental Assault By A Neighbor

Living in an apartment complex can be convenient when there are good amenities to enjoy like a gym or swimming pool. However, enjoying such amenities can be stressful when a resident is getting bullied by a neighbor after also getting assaulted in a dispute. For example, sometimes complaining about a neighbor being too noisy to an apartment manager can lead to them becoming offended and retaliating. If you were physically assaulted by a neighbor after such a dispute and now feel too afraid to use the amenities around the complex or go outside, compensation is possible if you pursue a lawsuit with a lawyer's help. You might not only be able to hold your neighbor liable for your physical injuries caused by the assault, but also the injuries you are suffering psychologically.

How the Assault Was Initiated

An important aspect of suing your neighbor and actually winning the case will depend on how the assault was initiated. For example, you must be open to telling a lawyer any role that you played in the incident, such as whether or not you called your neighbor any derogatory names. The reason why is because a lawyer will have to figure out if your neighbor is fully liable for the things the assault that took place. The manager at your apartment complex might be contacted and asked questions in regards to your neighbor's overall behavior as a tenant and any warnings that were issued. Basically, a lawyer can dig deep into the character of your neighbor with a thorough investigation.

How You Are Mentally Affected

If the incident with your neighbor had an impact on your overall quality of life, it may be considered a mental assault. It is actually possible for a psychological injury to have a larger impact on someone's quality of life than one that is physical. For example, when someone is mentally injured, it can prevent them from being social, going out in public places, and many people will develop other fears. A lawyer will ask you certain questions to figure out if you are suffering from a mental injury that your neighbor can be held accountable for.

A Justified Payment for Your Suffering

Your compensation request via a lawsuit should be based on the extent of suffering that you have due to your neighbor's actions. A lawyer will determine how much compensation you deserve for your physical and mental health injuries, as well as for having to experience such an incident. A lawyer's job will be to help you get all of the money that you deserve.
