Understanding Lawyers - Don't Think the Worst

I got into a car accident when my daughter was 2 years old. My daughter was not injured in the crash, but I was. The accident was caused by a distracted driver talking on her cell phone. The driver insisted that I was attending to my daughter and I took my eyes off the road. I unfortunately had many medical bills to pay and I had very little time to fight with insurance companies over settlement payments. I was concerned about the cost of an attorney, but I met with a lawyer anyway to help with the accident claim. The lawyer relieved my stress and dealt with the insurance company and the other driver. I want you to know that lawyers can be helpful, kind, and caring. Most people think the worst of these professionals, but I want you to know that lawyers should not be feared or avoided.

3 Ways To Get Divorced Without Going To Court

If you and your spouse have decided to get divorced and want to do it without going to court, there are options. These methods do not work well for couples that have complicated situations or that do not get along well, but they can work for couples that are willing to work together to come up with a mutually satisfying agreement. Here are three ways you can get divorced without setting foot in a courtroom.

Do-It-Yourself Divorce

A DIY divorce is one in which you complete all the legal paperwork yourself. With this option, you will not hire lawyers, and there will be no one there to give you legal advice. You can handle a DIY divorce by printing out the appropriate documents online. You must fill them out, send them to your local court, and pay the necessary fees.

This is a legal way to get divorced, and the benefit is that it can be relatively inexpensive. One drawback of this is that you may not get everything you are entitled to simply because you do not have a lawyer representing you.

Mediation

The second option is getting divorced through mediation. A mediated divorce involves you, your spouse, and a third party–a mediator. The mediator can help you and your spouse decide how to split everything and handl filing all the necessary documents with the court.

The benefit of a mediator is that it offers assistance from a neutral party. This assistance is handy because it can guide you through the process and make sure you do not forget to discuss important issues.

Collaborative Divorce

The final option you have is using a collaborative divorce. This option is similar to mediation; however, you will both need to hire lawyers for this. The lawyers are there to represent each of you and settle all matters of the divorce. They will also handle filing all legal paperwork needed for the divorce, and you will never have to go to court.

This option is a good option because it is the only one that offers you legal advice. This is the only option where you must have an attorney representing you, which means you will have someone looking out for your best interests.

Using a divorce method like one of these is a great way to avoid court, but they are not always the best options. If you do not feel that one of these would work well for you, you may want to stick with hiring a divorce lawyer like William K Holman and using a traditional divorce.
