Understanding Lawyers - Don't Think the Worst

I got into a car accident when my daughter was 2 years old. My daughter was not injured in the crash, but I was. The accident was caused by a distracted driver talking on her cell phone. The driver insisted that I was attending to my daughter and I took my eyes off the road. I unfortunately had many medical bills to pay and I had very little time to fight with insurance companies over settlement payments. I was concerned about the cost of an attorney, but I met with a lawyer anyway to help with the accident claim. The lawyer relieved my stress and dealt with the insurance company and the other driver. I want you to know that lawyers can be helpful, kind, and caring. Most people think the worst of these professionals, but I want you to know that lawyers should not be feared or avoided.

6 Common Causes Of Workplace Injuries

While the majority of employers do their best to keep the workplace safe, accidents can still happen. The scary truth is that workers will get hurt on the job every day. Some workplace accident may results in minor scratches while others may cause life-threatening injuries. Here are six common causes of workplace injuries:

Slips

Slips can often occur in office break rooms and kitchens. If someone spills water or another liquid on the floor and does not clean it up, another person can slip on it and get hurt. It is important for all spills to be cleaned up immediately to prevent employees from slipping.

Falling Objects

Employees can also get injured at work by falling objects. For example, if heavy supplies are stacked too high on shelves and are not secured properly, they may fall on top of employees and lead to head trauma and other serious injuries.

Lifting

Some jobs require employees to lift heavier objects from time to time. Unfortunately, this can lead to back injuries if employees don't know how to lift correctly. Before lifting a heavy object, it is important to bend at the knees while keeping your back straight. If you don't think you will be able to pick up an item by yourself, ask a coworker to help you.

Vehicle Accidents

Workers who are required to drive a vehicle at their job have an increased risk of getting to an accident on the road. Vehicle crashes can result in life-threatening injuries, like traumatic brain injuries, so it is important for employees to drive extra carefully and obey the rules of the road.

Hazardous Materials

Employees who work around hazardous materials have to be extra careful and protect themselves with eye goggles, gloves and protective clothing. If they don't, it can result in eye injuries, skin infections and burns.

Repetitive Motion

When workers have to repeat the same motion over and over, they can experience numbness in their fingers and hands. Data entry clerks and typists have an increased risk of developing repetitive motion injuries.

If you were injured at work, you should speak to an experienced workers compensation lawyer, such as Townsend, Richard. He or she can help you obtain the money you deserve for your pain and suffering. During your initial consultation with a workers compensation lawyer, be sure to answer his or her questions with great detail and bring any evidence you have with you.
